GST Calculator

Add GST to a price, or take it out of a price that includes it, and see the CGST and SGST or IGST split for an invoice.

What is a GST calculator?

A GST calculator adds Goods and Services Tax to a price or extracts it from a price that already includes it. Shopkeepers, freelancers and small businesses use it to quote prices, check invoices and fill in returns, and buyers use it to see how much of a bill is tax.

Choose whether to add or remove GST, enter the amount and the rate, and say whether the sale is within the state or to another state. The calculator shows the price before tax, the GST, the CGST and SGST halves or the IGST, and the total, to the paisa. Quick buttons cover the current slabs.

How to use the GST Calculator

  1. 1.Choose add or remove

Add GST to a price before tax, or remove it from a GST-inclusive price.

  2. 2.Enter amount and rate

Type the amount and pick a slab, or type any rate.

  3. 3.Pick the supply type

Same state shows CGST and SGST; another state shows IGST.

Example: ₹10,000 at 18%

A service billed at ₹10,000 before tax, to a client in the same state:

GST at 18%
₹1,800
CGST 9% + SGST 9%
₹900 + ₹900
Invoice total
₹11,800
To a client in another state
IGST ₹1,800

base = 11,800 × 100 ÷ 118 = 10,000

Removing GST from ₹11,800 returns the same ₹10,000 base, which is how to check an inclusive bill.

GST formulas and the current slabs

Adding GST: GST = price × rate ÷ 100, and the total is the price plus GST. Removing GST from an inclusive price: price before tax = total × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). Within a state the GST is split equally between CGST and SGST; on a sale to another state the whole amount is IGST.

Since GST 2.0 took effect on 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall in the 5% or 18% slabs, with 40% for luxury and sin goods and nil for essentials. The old 12% and 28% slabs were folded into these. Gold and silver carry 3% and rough diamonds 0.25%.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove 18% GST from a price?

Divide by 1.18. ₹11,800 including 18% GST is ₹10,000 before tax and ₹1,800 of GST.

What are the GST slabs now?

Mainly 5% and 18%, plus 40% for luxury and sin goods and 0% for essentials. 3% and 0.25% apply to precious metals and stones.

When is it CGST plus SGST, and when IGST?

When the supplier and the place of supply are in the same state, it's CGST + SGST in equal halves. Between states, it's IGST.

Can I just take 18% off the total?

No. 18% of an inclusive price overstates the tax. Use the remove-GST mode, which divides by 1 + rate.
