YouTube Channel Age Checker

Enter a channel to see the exact date and time it was created, how old it is in years, months and days, and how much it has grown each year on average.

What is a YouTube channel age checker?

A channel age checker shows exactly when a YouTube channel was created, to the second, and works out its age in years, months and days. YouTube shows only a "Joined" date on the channel's About panel, without the time.

It also spreads the channel's current totals over its age to give average views, subscribers and uploads per year, a rough measure of how fast it has grown. People use it to settle which channel came first, check whether a channel claiming to be long-established really is, or put a creator's success in context. A channel can be older than its first video, since some were created years before they started uploading.

How to check when a YouTube channel was created

  1. 1.Enter the channel

Type the @handle of the channel you're curious about, or paste any of its video links.

  2. 2.See the creation date

Get the date and time the channel was created, in UTC, and its exact age.

  3. 3.Compare its growth

See its average views, subscribers and uploads per year since it started.

Example: averages per year

Say a channel was created 8 years and 6 months ago and now has these totals.

Age
8.5 years
Subscribers
1,700,000 → 200,000 per year
Views
340,000,000 → 40,000,000 per year
Videos
510 → 60 per year

average per year = current total ÷ age in years

Growth is rarely even, so these are averages, not a year-by-year history.

Where the date comes from

YouTube records the moment every channel is created, and the YouTube Data API returns it. That's the same date YouTube shows as "Joined" on a channel's About page, here with the exact time.

A channel can be older than its first video: some channels were created years before they started uploading, and creators can delete old videos. The averages per year spread the channel's current totals evenly over its age.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see when a YouTube channel was created?

Enter the channel above. On YouTube itself, the date is under More about this channel, labelled Joined.

Why is the time in UTC?

YouTube stores the creation time in UTC. Depending on your time zone, the local date may be a day earlier or later.

Why is the channel older than its first video?

Many channels were created years before their first upload, and older videos may have been deleted or made private since.

Can a channel's creation date change?

No. It's set when the channel is created and stays the same if the channel is renamed, picks a new handle or deletes its early videos.
