YouTube Tag Extractor

Paste a video link to see every tag its creator added, how much of the 500-character limit they use, and which ones also appear in the title or description.

What is a YouTube tag extractor?

A tag extractor shows the tags a creator added to a video in YouTube Studio. Tags are hidden from viewers on the watch page, but they're part of the video's public data, so the tool can read them straight from YouTube's API.

It lists every tag in the creator's order, counts their total length the way YouTube Studio does against its 500-character limit, and marks which tags also appear in the title or description. You can copy them separated by commas, one per line, or as hashtags. It's a quick way to research how videos that rank for a topic describe themselves, though YouTube says tags play only a small part in search compared with titles and thumbnails.

How to see the tags on a YouTube video

  1. 1.Paste the video link

Paste the link of a video that ranks well for your topic. Shorts and youtu.be links work as well as normal ones.

  2. 2.See the tags

Every tag is listed in the creator's order, with the total length as YouTube Studio counts it.

  3. 3.Copy them

Copy all the tags separated by commas, one per line, or turned into hashtags.

Example: how the character count adds up

Take a video with three tags: pasta, easy pasta recipe and dinner.

Characters in the tags, spaces included
5 + 17 + 6 = 28
Commas between tags
2
Quote marks
2 (for the tag with spaces)
Studio count
32 of 500

count = characters + (tags − 1) + 2 × (tags containing a space)

Only "easy pasta recipe" contains a space, so it's the one Studio wraps in quotes, adding 2 to the count.

Why tags are hidden

Creators add tags when they upload a video, but YouTube doesn't show them on the watch page. They're still part of the video's public data, so this tool reads them straight from the YouTube Data API.

YouTube says tags play a small role in search and matter most for words people often misspell. Looking at the tags on videos that rank for a topic is still a quick way to find related keywords for your own uploads.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't a video show any tags?

The creator didn't add any. Tags are optional, and many large channels don't use them.

How is the character count worked out?

The same way YouTube Studio counts toward its 500-character limit: each tag's letters, plus the commas between tags, plus two for the quote marks Studio puts around a tag that contains a space.

Can I copy another creator's tags?

Tags aren't protected, but copying them word for word rarely helps. Use them as ideas and keep only the ones that describe your own video.

Is this the same as the video stats tool?

Video stats shows tags alongside views, likes and other details. This page is just the tags, with their length and more ways to copy them.
