Export YouTube Playlist to Markdown

Paste a playlist link to download a .md file with the playlist as a table, ready for Obsidian, GitHub READMEs, Notion or your notes.

What is a playlist to Markdown exporter?

A playlist to Markdown exporter turns a YouTube playlist into a .md file: a heading, a summary line and a table with one row per video, written in the GitHub-flavored Markdown that Obsidian, GitHub, Notion, VS Code and most note apps render.

It's built for people who keep notes in plain text. Drop the file into an Obsidian vault or a GitHub repo and the table renders with clickable links. Pipes and line breaks inside titles are escaped so the table never breaks. For a course you're working through, Copy checklist gives a to-do list of linked titles instead, ready to tick off as you watch.

How to export a YouTube playlist to Markdown

  1. 1.Paste the playlist link

Paste the link of the playlist you want in your notes, whether it's public or unlisted, and press Export.

  2. 2.Markdown is already ticked

Pick the table's columns. Fewer columns keep the table readable in narrow note panes.

  3. 3.Download

Press Download to get a .md file, or use Copy table and Copy checklist to paste straight into your notes.

Example: the table and the checklist

With Position, Title and Duration ticked, the same video appears like this in each form.

Table header
| Position | Title | Duration |
Table row
| 2 | Variables | 18:30 |
Checklist line
- [ ] [Variables](link that opens it in the playlist) (18:30)

Videos already marked as watched on the site come through as - [x], so the checklist starts where you are.

A playlist for your notes

The file opens with the playlist name as a heading, a line with the channel, video count and a link back to YouTube, then a GitHub-flavored Markdown table with one row per video. Pipes and line breaks inside titles and descriptions are escaped so the table never breaks.

For a course you're working through, Copy checklist is often handier: it gives a to-do list of linked titles with durations that Obsidian, Notion and GitHub turn into checkboxes.

How do I get a checklist instead of a table?

Press Copy checklist. You get one - [ ] line per video, already ticked for videos you've marked as watched in the course tracker.

Can I export one module of a course to its own note?

Yes. Use the From and To video numbers to export only that range, then repeat for the next module.
