Privacy policy
Last updated
This policy explains what information ZapKit (zapkit.org) handles when you use it, what stays on your own device, and how cookies, analytics and advertising work on the site. ZapKit is operated by Pulkit Garg, an individual based in India. You can reach me about anything in this policy at hello@zapkit.org.
The short version
- There are no accounts, so ZapKit never asks for your name, email address or password.
- Calculators, converters and file tools run in your browser. What you type or open stays on your device.
- The YouTube tools send the public link you paste to our server so it can ask YouTube's API about it.
- Google Analytics and Vercel Web Analytics measure how the site is used, and Google AdSense may show ads.
Tools that run in your browser
Tools that calculate, convert or process files do their work with JavaScript on your own device. The numbers, text and files you put into them aren't uploaded to ZapKit or stored by us. Where a tool puts your inputs into the page address so you can share a result, that address is only seen by whoever you share it with, and by analytics as described below.
YouTube tools
When you use a YouTube tool, the link, video ID, playlist ID, channel @handle or search text you enter is sent to our server. The server asks the YouTube Data API for public information about it and sends the answer back to your browser. We keep a usage record of each lookup containing:
- which tool was used and when,
- the public playlist, video or channel looked up, or the text typed into a channel search,
- its public title, channel name and thumbnail address.
This record doesn't include your IP address, browser details or anything else that identifies you. We use it to see which tools are used, to stay within YouTube's API limits and to fix problems. It is kept for as long as it is useful for those purposes.
The YouTube tools use YouTube API Services. By using them you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and information YouTube handles is covered by the Google Privacy Policy. ZapKit never asks you to sign in to YouTube and can't access your Google account. If you ever connected an app to your Google account, you can review and remove that access on Google's security settings page.
Stored in your browser
Some tools save settings and progress in your browser's local storage so they are still there next time: your light or dark theme, videos you've ticked as watched, courses in the course tracker, and tool preferences. This data never leaves your device unless you export it yourself, and you can clear it at any time from your browser's site settings.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they use and how they found the site. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga) and collects information like pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
We also use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without storing information that identifies you. Our host, Vercel, may briefly keep standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and reliability.
Advertising
ZapKit may show ads served by Google AdSense. In that case:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info (or youronlinechoices.eu in Europe).
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised ads or non-essential cookies are used, and can change that choice at any time.
When you contact us
If you email ZapKit, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. We use it only to reply and to fix what you reported, and we don't add you to any mailing list.
Sharing
We don't sell personal information. Information is shared only with the services described above (YouTube's API, Google Analytics, Google AdSense and our host Vercel), or where the law requires it.
Children
ZapKit is a general-audience site and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, including under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act and the EU and UK GDPR, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information about you, or to object to how it is used. Because ZapKit has no accounts and its usage records don't identify visitors, we usually hold nothing that can be linked to you, but you can always ask at hello@zapkit.org. Cookies can be blocked or deleted in your browser settings; the tools keep working without them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. See also the terms of use.
