Export YouTube Playlist to XML

Paste a playlist link to download its videos as a well-formed XML document, ready for imports, XSLT or any tool that reads XML.

What is a playlist to XML exporter?

A playlist to XML exporter saves a YouTube playlist as a well-formed XML document, for systems and tools that expect XML rather than JSON or CSV, such as older import routines, XSLT transforms, Excel's XML import or enterprise content systems.

The structure is fixed and predictable: a playlist element with the playlist's details, then a videos element holding one video element per video, with a child element for each column you pick. Lists like tags become nested item elements, missing values are empty elements, and special characters are escaped, so the file always parses and every video has the same shape.

How to export a YouTube playlist to XML

  1. 1.Paste the playlist link

    Paste the playlist address that your import or transform needs and press Export.

  2. 2.XML is already ticked

    Pick the elements each video holds: title, video ID, durations, views, likes, description, tags and more.

  3. 3.Download

    Press Download to get an .xml file, or tick more formats to get them together in a ZIP.

Example: one video element

With Title, Video ID and Duration (text) ticked, each video is written as:

Opening tag
<video>
Children
<title>Variables</title> <videoId>VIDEO_ID</videoId> <durationText>18:30</durationText>
Closing tag
</video>

A title such as "Q&A" is written as Q&amp;A, which is why the file never fails to parse.

How the XML is structured

The root <playlist> element holds the playlist's id, title, channel, url, videoCount and exportedAt, followed by a <videos> element with one <video> per video in playlist order. Each picked column becomes a child element named after it, such as <videoId> or <durationText>.

Lists like tags become nested <item> elements, and missing values are empty elements, so every <video> has the same shape. Special characters are escaped and characters XML 1.0 can't hold are removed, so the file always parses.

Frequently asked questions

Can Excel open the XML file?

Yes. In Excel choose Data, Get Data, From File, From XML and expand the videos table. For a ready-made sheet, the Excel (.xlsx) download is simpler.

Is there a schema?

There's no XSD file, but the structure is fixed: the same elements appear in the same order for every video, based on the columns you pick.

What encoding does the file use?

UTF-8, declared in the XML header, so titles in any language and emoji come through unchanged.

How are tags written in the XML?

As a tags element holding one item element per tag. A video without tags gets an empty tags element, so every video keeps the same structure.
