What is a YouTube timestamp link generator?
A timestamp link generator makes a YouTube link that starts playing at a chosen moment, so the person you send it to lands on the answer, the goal or the chorus instead of the start of a long video.
Type the time the way you'd say it, such as 1:30, 1:02:45, 90 or 1m30s, and the tool converts it to seconds, checks it isn't past the end of the video, and builds four versions: a normal watch link, a short youtu.be link, an embed link and ready-to-paste HTML. If the link you paste already contains a time, that time is filled in for you. Teachers, support teams and anyone quoting a video in a discussion use it constantly.
How to link to a specific time in a YouTube video
1.Paste the video link
Any YouTube link works. If it already has a time in it, like ?t=90, that time is filled in for you.
2.Enter the start time
Type it as 1:30, 1:02:45, 90 or 1m30s. It's checked against the video's length.
3.Copy a link
Copy the watch link, the youtu.be link, the embed link or ready-made HTML.
Example: start at 4 minutes 5 seconds
For a video with the ID VIDEO_ID and a start time typed as 4:05:
- Seconds
- 245
- Watch link
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID&t=245s
- Short link
- https://youtu.be/VIDEO_ID?t=245
- Embed link
- https://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEO_ID?start=245
seconds = hours × 3600 + minutes × 60 + seconds
4 × 60 + 5 = 245, so every version starts the video 245 seconds in.
How timestamp links work
Adding t= to a YouTube link tells the player where to start: youtube.com/watch?v=…&t=90s or youtu.be/…?t=90 both start 90 seconds in. Embedded players use start= instead.
YouTube's own Share button can add the current time, but only in the app or player you're watching in. This tool makes the link from any time you type and checks that the video is long enough.
Frequently asked questions
How do I link to a time in a YouTube video?
Add &t= and the number of seconds to a watch link, or ?t= to a youtu.be link. This tool does it for you from a time like 1:30.
Do timestamp links work on phones?
Yes. The YouTube app and mobile browsers both start the video at the time in the link.
Can an embedded video start at a time?
Yes. Use the embed link, which adds ?start= with the number of seconds. The embed code generator can also set an end time.
Which time formats can I type?
Minutes and seconds like 1:30, hours like 1:02:45, a plain number of seconds such as 90, or the 1m30s style YouTube uses. Each is turned into seconds for the link.
