Step-Up SIP Calculator

Raise your SIP every year, the way your salary rises, and see how much bigger the corpus gets than with a flat SIP.

What is a step-up SIP?

A step-up SIP is a systematic investment plan whose monthly amount increases automatically once a year, by a percentage or a fixed sum. It suits salaried investors whose income rises: you start with what's comfortable today and invest more as you earn more, without having to remember to change anything.

This calculator shows what a step-up SIP could grow to at a steady expected return, how much you'll have invested in total, and what the monthly SIP will be in the final year. Compare it with the plain SIP calculator to see how much of the extra corpus comes from the step-up itself.

How to use the Step-Up SIP Calculator

  1. 1.Enter the starting SIP

Type the monthly amount for the first year.

  2. 2.Set the yearly increase

Choose by how much the SIP rises each year, such as 10%, along with the expected return and period.

  3. 3.Compare

See the final value, the SIP you'll be paying in the last year, and the growth year by year.

Example: ₹10,000 a month, 10% step-up, 10 years

Starting at ₹10,000 a month, rising 10% each year, at an expected 12% a year:

SIP in year 10
₹23,579 a month
Total invested
₹19,12,491
Expected value
₹33,74,326
Flat ₹10,000 SIP instead
₹23,23,391

The step-up adds about ₹10.5 lakh to the final value over the same ten years.

How the step-up works

A step-up, also called a top-up, increases the instalment once a year. With a 10% step-up, ₹10,000 a month becomes ₹11,000 in year two, ₹12,100 in year three and so on. Within each year the instalment is fixed and invested at the start of every month.

Most fund houses let you set this up when you start the SIP, as a fixed percentage or amount. It keeps your investing in step with your income, so the share of salary you save doesn't shrink as you earn more.

Frequently asked questions

How much difference does a 10% step-up make?

For ₹10,000 a month at 12% over 20 years, a flat SIP grows to about ₹1 crore, while a 10% yearly step-up reaches about ₹1.99 crore.

What step-up percentage should I choose?

Match it to your expected pay rise. Many people choose 5–10%, which keeps the SIP a steady share of income.

Can I add a step-up to an existing SIP?

Many platforms let you add a top-up to a running SIP; otherwise start a second SIP for the extra amount.

Does a step-up increase risk?

No. It only changes how much you invest each year. The risk depends on the fund you choose.
