YouTube Playlist Health Check

Find the broken and repeated videos in a playlist, see how long its videos are, and estimate where viewers stop watching.

What is a playlist health check?

A playlist health check looks for the problems that build up in long playlists: videos that were deleted or made private, and videos added twice. Both stay in the list, so viewers hit a blank entry or watch the same lesson again.

The report gives the position of each broken or repeated entry so you can fix it quickly in YouTube Studio. It also shows how video lengths are spread and estimates drop-off, comparing each video's public views with the first video's to show where viewers tend to give up. Creators use it to keep their own courses tidy, and learners use it to check a playlist before committing to it.

How to use the Playlist Health Check

  1. 1.Paste the playlist

Paste a link to any public or unlisted playlist: a course, a series or your own channel's playlists.

  2. 2.Read the report

Private, deleted and repeated videos are listed with their position, followed by video lengths and drop-off.

  3. 3.Fix and share

Remove or replace broken entries in YouTube Studio, then share the report link to show the playlist is in good shape.

Example: a 60-video tutorial series

Checking a 60-video series built up over three years gives a report like this.

Unavailable
#14 deleted, #37 private
Repeated
#22 is the same video as #8
Video 1 views
200,000 (the 100% line)
Video 10 views
60,000, so 30% of video 1

drop-off at video n = views of video n ÷ views of video 1

Three entries to fix, and a slope that shows most viewers stop somewhere in the first ten videos.

What makes a playlist healthy

When a video in a playlist is made private or deleted, it stays in the list as a blank entry that viewers can't play. Long playlists collect these over time, along with videos added twice by mistake. The health check lists each one with its position so it's quick to fix.

Drop-off is estimated from public view counts: each video's views as a share of the first video's. A steady slope is normal for a course. A sudden drop points to the video where many viewers give up, which is a good place to look at pacing or split a long lesson.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find deleted videos in a YouTube playlist?

Paste the playlist link and press Check playlist. Every private, deleted or otherwise unavailable video is listed with its position, so you can find it in YouTube Studio and remove or replace it.

How is drop-off estimated?

YouTube doesn't publish audience retention for other people's playlists, so the tool compares each video's public views with the first video's. It's an estimate: views from search or from videos shared on their own are counted too.

Why does a later video have more views than the first?

That video probably gets traffic on its own, from search or suggestions. The chart is scaled so those bars still fit, and the 100% line marks the first video.

Can I check my own channel's uploads?

Yes. Every channel has an uploads playlist. Get its ID (it starts with UU) from the channel ID finder and paste it here.
