CSS Gradient Generator

Design a linear, radial or conic gradient visually, with up to six colour stops, and copy ready-to-use CSS.

What is a CSS gradient generator?

A CSS gradient generator lets you design a colour transition visually instead of writing gradient syntax by hand. Gradients are used for backgrounds, hero sections, buttons, overlays on images and decorative shapes, and they're drawn by the browser, so they cost no image download.

Choose linear, radial or conic, set the angle, then edit up to six colour stops with a picker and a position slider while the preview updates. The CSS includes a solid fallback colour, and the link keeps your gradient so you can come back to it.

How to use the CSS Gradient Generator

  1. 1.Choose a type

Linear, radial or conic; set the angle for linear and conic.

  2. 2.Edit the stops

Pick colours and drag their positions; add up to six stops.

  3. 3.Copy the CSS

Includes a solid colour fallback line first.

Example: the default three-colour gradient

Blue to violet to red at 135 degrees:

Stops
#2547d0 0%, #6233c4 50%, #e5322d 100%
CSS
linear-gradient(135deg, #2547d0 0%, #6233c4 50%, #e5322d 100%)
Fallback
background: #2547d0

Switch to conic and the same stops sweep around the centre instead.

The CSS behind it

linear-gradient blends along a line at the given angle, where 0deg points up and 90deg points right. radial-gradient spreads outward from the centre, and conic-gradient sweeps around a point like a pie chart. Each stop is a colour at a percentage along the gradient.

The output puts a plain background colour first, so anything that can't draw gradients still shows a sensible colour. Gradients are drawn by the browser, so they stay sharp at any size and add nothing to page weight.

Frequently asked questions

What angle should I use?

135deg runs from the top left to the bottom right, a popular choice for cards and hero sections.

How do I make a hard edge?

Put two stops at the same position, such as red 50% and blue 50%.

Can I use gradients for text?

Yes: set the gradient as the background, then background-clip: text and a transparent text colour.

Do all browsers support conic gradients?

All current major browsers do.
