Only the middle 60% of the width fits a portrait frame. Move the left-to-right slider to keep a subject that isn't centred, or switch to Fit to keep the whole scene.
Fill or fit?
Fill (crop) suits photos with a clear subject and space around it: the image covers the whole frame and the sliders slide the crop left, right, up or down. Fit (add border) suits pictures where every edge matters, like posters, screenshots or group photos, and puts the full picture on a blurred copy of itself or a plain colour.
Banners such as LinkedIn and YouTube are cropped differently on phones and desktops, so keep text and faces near the middle.

What size is an Instagram post?
1080 × 1080 for square and 1080 × 1350 for portrait (4:5), which takes up the most room in the feed. Stories and Reels are 1080 × 1920.
What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
1280 × 720 pixels (16:9). A JPG at that size is usually a few hundred KB, comfortably inside YouTube's upload limit.
Why does my LinkedIn banner look cut off on my phone?
