What is a passport photo maker?
A passport photo maker crops an ordinary portrait to the exact size and shape an identity document needs, and arranges copies on a sheet you can print. Getting it right at home saves a trip to a studio, and lets you retake the photo until you're happy with it.
Pick your document and the frame locks to its shape, with an oval guide showing where your head should sit. The tool saves a single photo at 300 DPI for online applications, and a print sheet with grey cut lines as a JPG or an exact-size PDF. Requirements differ by country and change over time, so it shows a note for each size reminding you what to check.
How to use the Passport Photo Maker
1.Pick the document
India passport (35 × 45 mm) is the default; US, UK, Schengen, Canada, PAN card and other sizes are in the list.
2.Add a photo and line up your face
Use a front-facing photo against a plain light wall. Drag the frame so your head fills the dashed oval.
3.Download and print
Save a single photo for online forms, or a 4 × 6 inch or A4 sheet. Print the PDF at actual size and cut along the grey lines.
Example: an Indian passport photo on a 4 × 6 print
Size and layout for the India passport preset:
- Photo size
- 35 × 45 mm
- Pixels at 300 DPI
- 413 × 531 px
- 4 × 6 inch sheet
- 3 across × 2 down = 6 photos
- A4 sheet
- 5 across × 6 down = 30 photos
Pixels = millimetres ÷ 25.4 × 300
One 4 × 6 photo print gives six passport photos with 3 mm gaps for cutting. A US 2 × 2 inch photo (602 × 602 px) fits two on the same sheet.
Getting the photo accepted
Officials check more than size: a plain white or light background, even lighting with no shadows on the face, eyes open and looking at the camera, a neutral expression, and no glasses glare. Take the photo from about 1.5 metres away at eye level, ideally facing a window, and ask someone else to take it rather than using a selfie at arm's length.
This tool sizes and lays out your photo; it doesn't remove or change the background, so start with a photo taken against a plain wall.
Frequently asked questions
What is the passport photo size in India?
Most Indian passport and government forms ask for 35 × 45 mm (3.5 × 4.5 cm) with a white background. Some Indian missions abroad ask for 51 × 51 mm (2 × 2 inches), so check the current rules where you apply.
How many pixels is a 35 × 45 mm photo?
413 × 531 pixels at 300 DPI, which is what this tool saves.
How do I print it at the right size?
Use the PDF sheet and choose Actual size or 100% in the print dialog, not Fit to page. Photo shops can print the 4 × 6 inch JPG directly.
Is the photo stored anywhere?
No. The cropping and the sheet are made in your browser, and the photo never leaves your device.
