What is a PDF to JPG converter?
A PDF to JPG converter draws each page of a PDF and saves it as an image. Images are easier to share in chat apps, drop into presentations and social posts, or upload to forms that don't accept PDFs.
This converter uses pdf.js, the same engine Firefox uses to display PDFs, to render pages in your browser at the resolution you choose. You can convert every page or only the ones you list, as JPG or PNG, and see thumbnails of the results with their pixel sizes and file sizes before downloading them individually or together as a ZIP.
How to use the PDF to JPG
1.Choose a PDF
Any PDF up to 200 MB; the page count shows once it's read.
2.Set format, resolution and pages
JPG for small files or PNG for crisp text. 150 DPI suits screens, 300 DPI suits printing. Leave pages empty for all, or type ranges like 1-3, 7.
3.Convert and save
Download a single image, all of them as a ZIP, or tap a thumbnail to save just that page.
Example: an A4 page at three resolutions
Pixel size of one A4 page (595.28 × 841.89 points):
- 72 DPI
- 595 × 841 px
- 150 DPI
- 1240 × 1753 px
- 300 DPI
- 2480 × 3507 px
- US Letter at 300 DPI
- 2550 × 3300 px
Pixels = points × DPI ÷ 72, rounded down
150 DPI is plenty for reading on a phone or laptop; choose 300 DPI when the image will be printed or zoomed into.
Choosing the resolution
PDF pages are measured in points, 72 to an inch, so the resolution decides the pixel size. An A4 page is 595 × 841 px at 72 DPI, 1240 × 1753 px at 150 DPI and 2480 × 3507 px at 300 DPI. Each doubling of DPI makes about four times as many pixels and a much larger file.
JPG keeps photos and scans small. PNG is better for pages of text, charts and line drawings, where JPG can leave faint smudges around sharp edges.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert just one page?
Type its number in the Pages box, such as 4, then convert. You get one image instead of a ZIP.
Why is the text in the image blurry?
The resolution is too low for the size you're viewing it at. Choose 300 DPI and PNG for documents you'll zoom into or print.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
Not here: the pages are encrypted and can't be drawn without the password. Remove the password in a PDF reader first.
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. Pages are drawn with pdf.js, the PDF engine from Firefox, inside your browser.
