Crop Image

Trim away the edges you don't want. Drag the frame or type exact pixel values, lock it to a common ratio, and rotate or mirror the picture first if it needs it.

What is an image cropper?

An image cropper cuts out a rectangle of a picture and throws away the rest. It's the quickest way to remove clutter at the edges, straighten the focus onto a person, or make a photo fit a shape that a website or app expects.

This one lets you drag a frame on the photo or type its position and size in pixels, lock the frame to a ratio such as 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9, and rotate in quarter turns or mirror the picture before cropping. A rule-of-thirds grid helps with composition, and the result preview updates as you move. All of it happens in your browser.

How to use the Crop Image

  1. 1.Open the image

Pick a photo or screenshot from your device.

  2. 2.Frame it

Choose Free or a ratio like 1:1 or 16:9, then drag the frame and its corners. The X, Y, width and height boxes set it to the exact pixel.

  3. 3.Save

Check the cropped preview, choose JPG, PNG or WebP and download.

Example: a 16:9 crop from a 4:3 photo

Turning a 4032 × 3024 photo into a widescreen slide background:

Photo
4032 × 3024 px (4:3)
Ratio chosen
16:9
Largest 16:9 frame
4032 × 2268 px
Trimmed off
378 px from the top and 378 px from the bottom

Frame height = 4032 × 9 ÷ 16 = 2268 px

The full width is kept and 756 rows of pixels are removed, split evenly until you move the frame.

Picking a ratio

1:1 is the square used for profile pictures and many marketplace listings. 4:5 is the tallest Instagram feed post. 16:9 matches TV screens, YouTube and slides, and 9:16 is the same turned upright, for Stories and Reels. 3:2 is the shape of most camera sensors and standard photo prints.

The faint grid splits the frame into thirds. Placing a face or horizon on one of those lines, rather than dead centre, often makes a crop look more natural.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop a picture into a perfect square?

Pick 1:1. The frame starts as the largest square in the middle; drag it to the part you want to keep.

Can I crop with the keyboard?

Yes. Tab to the frame, then arrow keys move it and Shift with an arrow key resizes it. Hold Alt for bigger steps.

Why did my crop reset when I rotated the picture?

Turning the image swaps its width and height, so the frame is redrawn to fit the new shape.

Is the cropped image lower quality?

The kept pixels are copied one-for-one, with no resizing. Saving as PNG is lossless; JPG and WebP are saved at 92% quality.
