Image Resizer

Set an exact width and height, or scale by a percentage, and see the new file size before you download. The aspect ratio stays locked unless you unlock it.

What is an image resizer?

An image resizer changes how many pixels wide and tall a picture is. Websites, job portals and social apps often ask for a particular size, and a full-resolution phone photo is far bigger than any screen needs.

With this resizer you can type an exact width or height in pixels, or scale by a percentage. While the link icon is on, the second side is worked out for you so the picture keeps its shape. The page shows the original and new dimensions, the aspect ratio and the new file size side by side, with a preview, before you save. The resizing happens on your own device.

How to use the Image Resizer

  1. 1.Choose an image

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and HEIC photos all work.

  2. 2.Set the new size

Type a width or height in pixels, or switch to Percentage and drag the slider. The other side follows automatically while the link icon is on.

  3. 3.Pick a format and download

Keep the original format or change it, check the preview and the file size, then save.

Example: a 4:3 photo resized to 1920 px wide

A 4032 × 3024 camera photo, resized for a presentation slide:

Original size
4032 × 3024 px (4:3)
New width
1920 px
Height with ratio locked
3024 × 1920 ÷ 4032 = 1440 px
Same as
47.6% scale

New height = original height × new width ÷ original width

The resized image is 1920 × 1440 px, still 4:3, with under a quarter of the original pixels.

Pixels, aspect ratio and sharpness

The aspect ratio is width divided by height. A 4:3 photo resized to 1920 px wide becomes 1440 px tall; typing both sides yourself with the lock off can stretch or squash faces, so only unlock it when a site demands exact dimensions that don't match.

Shrinking a picture is safe: it's resampled with the browser's high-quality smoothing. Making it bigger can't add detail that was never captured, so enlarged images look soft. Upscaling by more than about 150% is rarely worth it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize a photo to 600 × 600 pixels?

Unlock the aspect ratio, type 600 in both boxes and download. If the photo isn't square it will be stretched, so use the image cropper with a 1:1 frame first to keep proportions.

Does resizing reduce file size?

Yes. Halving the width and height leaves a quarter of the pixels, which usually cuts the file by 60–75%.

What's the best size for sharing on WhatsApp or email?

1280 to 1600 px on the longest side looks sharp on phones and laptops and keeps photos to a few hundred KB.

Can I set the DPI?

DPI only matters for printing and is just a label in the file. What decides print size is pixels: 1800 px prints 6 inches wide at 300 DPI.
