Engagement Rate Calculator

See how much your audience interacts with a post. Enter its likes, comments, saves and shares and choose whether to compare them with followers, reach or views.

What is an engagement rate?

Engagement rate measures how many people interact with a post compared with how many could have seen it. Brands use it when choosing creators to work with, because it reflects real interest better than follower counts, which can be inflated.

This calculator adds a post's likes, comments, saves and shares and divides the total by followers, accounts reached or views, as you choose, then shows the rate as a percentage with a rough rating. It works for Instagram posts and Reels, TikTok videos, and any platform that shows these numbers.

How to use the Engagement Rate Calculator

  1. 1.Pick the base

Followers is the usual public figure; reach and views are more accurate if you can see your insights.

  2. 2.Enter the numbers

Likes, comments, saves and shares from the post. Leave unknown ones at 0.

  3. 3.Read the rate

Get the percentage with a rough low-to-high rating, and share or copy it.

Example: one Instagram post

An account with 12,000 followers:

Likes
420
Comments
35
Saves
28
Shares
17
Interactions
500

Engagement rate = interactions ÷ followers × 100

500 ÷ 12,000 × 100 = 4.17%, which is strong for an account of this size.

Followers, reach or views?

Engagement by followers is what brands usually quote, because anyone can work it out from a public profile. But only part of your followers see each post, and non-followers see Reels, so rates by reach or views tell you more about how good the post was. TikTok is normally measured by views, since most of its audience doesn't follow the account.

Rates fall as accounts grow, and they vary a lot by niche, so compare a post with your own past posts first.

Frequently asked questions

What's a good engagement rate on Instagram?

Roughly 1–3% by followers is typical for many accounts, and above 3% is strong. Small accounts often score higher than large ones.

Should I count saves and shares?

Yes, if you have them from Insights. They're strong signals of interest and are counted here like likes and comments.

How do I get an account's average?

Work out the rate for your last 10 or so posts and average them, or add up all their interactions and divide by followers × number of posts.

Does it read my stats from Instagram?

No. You type the numbers in; nothing is fetched or stored.
