Attendance Calculator

Enter the classes held and attended to see your attendance, how many classes you need to attend in a row to reach the minimum, or how many you can safely skip.

What is an attendance calculator?

An attendance calculator tells you where you stand against your college's minimum attendance and what to do about it. Most Indian universities require 75% attendance to sit end-semester exams, and falling short can mean a detention or a condonation fee.

Give it the classes held and the classes you attended, and it shows your current percentage, how many classes you must attend without a break to reach your target, and, if you're above it, how many you could miss in a row and still be safe. A small table repeats the answer for 60% to 90%, for colleges with other rules.

How to use the Attendance Calculator

  1. 1.Enter classes held and attended

Use the numbers from your college portal for one subject, or for all subjects together if that's how your rule works.

  2. 2.Set the required percentage

75% is the usual minimum; change it if your college uses another.

  3. 3.Plan ahead

See classes to attend or classes you can miss, and the same figures at 60–90%.

Example: 30 of 45 classes

Current attendance 30 ÷ 45 = 66.67%, target 75%:

Classes to attend in a row
⌈(0.75 × 45 − 30) ÷ 0.25⌉ = 15
Check
45 ÷ 60 = 75% after 15 more classes
At 60% instead
you could miss 5
At 85% instead
attend 55 in a row

Classes to attend = ⌈(target × held − attended) ÷ (1 − target)⌉

Fifteen classes is about two and a half weeks of a six-classes-a-week subject, so start early.

Why catching up takes so long

Every class you attend also adds to the total held, so the percentage climbs slowly. Going from 30 of 45 (66.7%) to 75% takes 15 classes in a row, not 4. The higher the target, the steeper it gets: 90% would take 105.

The figures assume you attend, or miss, the next classes one after another. Check whether your college counts attendance per subject or overall, and whether medical or duty leave is added back.

Frequently asked questions

What happens below 75% attendance?

Under many university rules, students below 75% can be stopped from sitting the end-semester exam unless the shortfall is condoned for medical or other valid reasons.

How is attendance percentage calculated?

Classes attended ÷ classes held × 100. Labs often count as one class each, or as two for a double period; check how your portal counts them.

Can I reach 100% after missing a class?

No. Once you've missed one, the percentage can get closer to 100% but never reach it.

Does this work for school attendance too?

Yes. CBSE's 75% rule for board exams works the same way with days attended.
