CGPA Calculator

Enter each semester's SGPA and credits to get your cumulative GPA, then set a target to see what you need to score from here on.

What is CGPA?

CGPA, the cumulative grade point average, is your overall result across every semester so far, on a scale of 10. It's the number placement cells, higher-studies applications and scholarship forms ask for, and it's printed on your final transcript.

Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of your semester SGPAs. This calculator takes each semester's SGPA and total credits, gives you the CGPA and the credits behind it, and adds a planner: say the CGPA you want to graduate with and how many credits are left, and it tells you the average SGPA you need to score in the remaining semesters.

How to use the CGPA Calculator

  1. 1.Add your semesters

For each one, type the total credits and the SGPA from your grade card.

  2. 2.Check your CGPA

It's weighted by credits, so heavier semesters count for more.

  3. 3.Plan for a target

Enter the CGPA you're aiming for and the credits still to come to see the average SGPA you need.

Example: three semesters and a target of 8.5

SGPAs and credits so far:

Semester 1
22 credits, SGPA 8.2
Semester 2
24 credits, SGPA 7.6
Semester 3
23 credits, SGPA 8.5
CGPA so far
558.3 ÷ 69 = 8.09
Needed for 8.5
SGPA 8.81 over the next 90 credits

Needed SGPA = (target × all credits − credit points so far) ÷ credits left

Finishing on 8.5 means (8.5 × 159 − 558.3) ÷ 90 = 8.81 on average for the rest of the course.

Weighted, not a simple average

Averaging SGPAs directly is only right when every semester has the same credits. When one semester carries 24 credits and another 20, the bigger one counts for more, so this calculator multiplies each SGPA by its credits first. If your university averages SGPAs plainly, enter the same credits for every semester and the two methods agree.

The target planner works backwards: the credit points you'll need in total, minus those you already have, spread over the credits you have left.

Frequently asked questions

I don't know my semester credits. What should I enter?

Enter the same number, such as 20, for every semester. That gives a plain average of your SGPAs.

What CGPA do companies ask for?

Many campus recruiters set a cut-off of 6, 6.5 or 7, and some higher. Check each company's criteria.

Why does the planner say my target is out of reach?

Reaching it would need an average SGPA above 10 in the remaining credits, which isn't possible. Try a slightly lower target.

How do I convert CGPA to percentage?

Use the CGPA to percentage converter. Your university's own formula, if it gives one, is the one that counts.
