What is a LinkedIn post formatter?
A LinkedIn post formatter helps you write posts that are easy to read in the feed. LinkedIn's composer only takes plain text, so formatting has to come from Unicode bold and italic letters, careful line breaks and simple list markers.
This formatter gives you Bold, Italic, Bullets, Numbers and Plain text buttons that work on your selection, a 3,000-character counter, and a feed preview that cuts the post where LinkedIn typically shows "see more" on desktop or mobile, so you can test your opening lines before posting. It runs in your browser and nothing is posted for you.
How to use the LinkedIn Post Formatter
1.Write or paste your post
Line breaks are kept exactly as you type them.
2.Format
Select words and press Bold or Italic; put the cursor in lines and press Bullets or Numbers. Plain text undoes styling.
3.Check the fold and copy
Switch between desktop and mobile previews, then Copy post and paste into LinkedIn.
Example: the sample post
The post that opens in the editor:
- Length
- 344 of 3,000 characters
- Shown on desktop
- about 210, into the bullet list
- Shown on mobile
- about 140, ending at "three things happened:"
- Lists
- three bullet points using •
The hook and the setup fit above the fold on both devices, while the lesson sits below it, a common pattern that invites the click.
Write for the first two lines
Feed readers see only the opening of a post, roughly 210 characters on desktop and 140 on a phone, before "see more". Those lines decide whether anyone reads the rest. Start with the outcome, the problem or a short, specific claim, and keep the first line on its own.
Use bold for one or two key phrases at most. Styled letters are special Unicode characters, so screen readers may not read them and LinkedIn search won't match them.
Frequently asked questions
How long can a LinkedIn post be?
3,000 characters for a regular post. Comments are limited to 1,250.
Where exactly does "see more" appear?
LinkedIn doesn't publish it, and it varies with screen width and line breaks. About 210 characters on desktop and 140 on mobile is typical.
Why doesn't my bold text show as bold in search?
It's made of mathematical Unicode letters, not formatted text, so it's treated as different characters.
Is my post saved?
Only while this tab is open. Copy it before you leave the page.
