GATE 2027 Countdown

A live countdown to GATE 2027, organised by IIT Madras, with papers on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027.

What is the GATE countdown?

The GATE countdown shows the time left until the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, a national exam run each year by one of the IITs or IISc for postgraduate admissions and public sector recruitment in engineering, science and some humanities subjects.

GATE is spread over several days, with each subject's paper on one of them. This countdown runs to the first exam day at 9:30 am IST and lists all six dates, so you can find yours. With a score that stays valid for three years, many candidates use the countdown to plan a second attempt as well.

How to use the GATE 2027 Countdown

  1. 1.Check the countdown

It counts to 9:30 am IST on 6 February, the first exam day.

  2. 2.Find your paper's day

Each subject paper is on one of the six days; the schedule and your admit card show which.

  3. 3.Plan revision

Leave the last two weeks for previous years' papers and the virtual calculator.

Example: from 1 January 2027

Time left to the first GATE day:

Days to 6 February
36
Days to 21 February
51
Previous papers at 1 a day
about 5 weeks' worth
Result
19 March 2027

Depending on your paper's day, you have between 36 and 51 days from New Year, so check the schedule before planning.

GATE pattern and scoring

Each GATE paper lasts three hours, with 65 questions worth 100 marks, including 15 marks of General Aptitude common to all papers. Questions are multiple choice, multiple select or numerical answer; only wrong multiple-choice answers lose marks.

A GATE score stays valid for three years. It's used for M.Tech and direct PhD admissions at IITs, NITs and other institutes, and many public sector companies recruit through it.
